Aircraft
All seaplanes based at the airport in Hägernäs are privately owned in some form. The ownership groups consist of between 2-7 people who share the responsibilities and costs but above all the joy and benefit of their own aircraft. The flying club manages the clubhouse, fuel tank and docks and currently does not have its own aircraft.
During the winter, most of the machines are preserved and put away in hangars and barns in the Stockholm area. By far the most common normal-class seaplane is the high-winged one and is manufactured by Cessna. Over the years, the manufacturer has made several models and variants with different engines and characteristics, and the Cessna plane at Hägernäs is either a model 185 or 206. Taking off from water requires slightly stronger engines, both to get up from a clear water surface but also to be able to take off with the higher additional weight that the floats constitute. Less powerful models such as the Cessna 172 are therefore less common, although they do exist.
Many aircraft individuals are old, but since they are regularly maintained and components are replaced according to the manufacturer's maintenance program, the lifespan cannot be compared to, for example, a car. In practice, this means that even if the aircraft is 50 years old, most components such as engines, instruments, wear parts, etc. have been replaced a number of times depending on calendar time or operating time. The hull and shell plates are also repainted and maintained.
Seaplane flying is generally more expensive than the equivalent land-based flying in a club. This is due to several factors such as higher insurance costs, higher maintenance costs and the fact that larger aircraft are often used than is otherwise common in club flying. In a year, a seaplane also flies less than a land-based aircraft, which means there are fewer flight hours to spread the costs over.

As the cost of using so-called normal-class aircraft has increased, a smaller and lighter variant has emerged. The collective name for these is UL (Ultralight). What is significant about UL is that the total weight may not exceed 450 kg for aircraft, fuel and people, which can be compared to a Cessna 206 which weighs a maximum of about 1600 kg. UL aircraft can also be serviced and maintained yourself, which then keeps costs down, but it is important to know what you are doing.
The following machines are often seen in Hägernäs.
SE-EXF – Cessna 185
SE-LCO – Cessna 185
SE-LCZ – Cessna 185
SE-LVP – Cessna 206
SE-YJR – Eurocub MkIV
